Why we chose this
The Luberon is saturated with holiday rentals, but Le Mas de la Colline belongs to a different register. It is a working mas — a Provençal stone farmhouse — run by people who live there year-round and happen to have turned the outbuildings into a small number of exceptional rooms.
What to expect
Thick walls, tile floors, shuttered windows. The garden has lavender, a potager, and a pool carved from the hillside. Dinners are served at a long outdoor table and use what the garden produces. The village of Gordes is a short drive up the hill.
Best for
Anyone who wants Provence without the theme park. Particularly good for slow travellers staying four nights or more.
